Default Let's Go Higher!

Hello fellow fans!

*In a nutshell*
---If you feel GW lacks the oppurtunity to let you climb high, and you wish to do so, I encourage to share your thoughts and opinions about the possibility that ANet could create for us!---

*Full Idea*
I am one who enjoys the works of cartography within the game and I catch some amazing screenshots along the way. Just imagine, one night you have nothing to do with Guild Wars; so why not create a digital portfolio of wonderful screesnhots from the game. In order to increase the magnitude of this hobby I propose that GW should create higher, and more accessable places in the game. Places such as Random Arenas with the high towers in the background, or climbing the shafts of the magnificent Gothic architecture in the Kurzick realm, or perhaps scaling the massive waves of the jade sea would satisfy your thirst for adventure. Also consider the range of a lonbow at such heights!!!--- imagine an arrow that can travel out of your radar! For this reason the changes I propose should be limited to PvE, in order to thwart any exploiters in PvP.

If this idea is of any interest to you, please post your thoughts and opinions; popularity is the only way that this dream could become a reality, and you can make a difference. I am always excited to engulf myself in other's knowledge about GW, please post now.

Your Fellow GW Enthusiast,
Eragon of Aleria

This would be a hue change that would drastically alter the gameplay. Nice as it might be, it's just not feasible.

That's a major change in maps that will never happen.

I also take many screenshots. I use highest resolution, and don't just stand my characters there and say "Cheese!" I "pose" them, catching them in all stances in the middle of the various emotes. I have a huge collection of very artful pics of all character types in many armor sets, in many poses in front of beautiful scenery. Makes for an awesome slideshow screen saver.

As far as your suggestion goes, what we need is some sort of "floating camera" ability. I'm sure the game designers have controls of the sort for filming cutscenes.

That would be the easier route to taking shots from inaccessible places. They would just need to adapt existing controls for player use. Of course, it could also get you killed if your view wanders too far out and you don't realize a wandering group is attacking. They would also have to make sure there was no way for people to exploit it somehow. Underground, you could "virtually" find your path without fighting your way up blind alleys slowly revealing the map from the "fog of war".

I'd love something of the sort, but doubt we'll ever see anything like it.

good side -
Maps with more detail give U something to look at which is awesome! Because when I sell things in the KC or otherwise I find myself staring off into oblivion.

bad side -
For those who play without DSL or higher or play on a really cruddy labtop (w/ low graf. cards) when U rotate the camera to find the enemy attacking u from behind (which usually happens from time to time) it would cause a comp. to lag not sure how much though.

this'll prolly be implemented in GW2, where Anet has said that they are working on a Z axis for up and down movement as well as diagonal, which may allow for swimming, climbing, and crawling.

I understand your points. Yes this would be a large change but as Hamfast, thaiyoh and I understand, the benefits will outweigh the hassles. I'm not asking for every point in the game to grow higher, I would just like to have several high sentry points. Another possibility would be to create towers in the middle of wide open areas so that photography enthusiasts like me could have better vantage points. Possible areas include the Jade Sea, Echovald forest, a peak of a mountain and a crow's nest of a docked ship. The purpose of my proposal is purely entertainment and I do not see this as an impossibility. Try to think small at first, then dream big. Do you understand my concept better now? If you do, please post and share your thoughts. If you don't, then post some suggestions explaining how my idea could be improved

Guild Wars has no Z-Axis. Height is therefore irrelevant.

That's the entire point: it's a huge change redesigning maps that are already in the game, and it's not happening this late in the game, especially since their focus is GW2 now.

Making points more accessable is not out of reach, and should not take a long time. All that is needed is a path to get up there, no new maps or changing EVERY map in the game; just select areas that could be improved to meet this goal. Lets get some support here!

Current maps aren't being redesigned now, much less for more photo-OP-ability, get over it.

It has nothing to do with appeal. It would take far too much work to make it viable, especially this late in the game.

Could you please explain why you think there is too much work to be done

My idea was that they only make some places more accessable instead of blocking them off, not remaking the map to fit around these minor tweaks. Like where a bridge or climbing ramp suddenly stops; they could allow players to climb just a bit higher.

I do understand how most people see this as a major change, but mind you the changes I think of are very small and limited in number. Thanks for reading.

Just making it so you can walk on areas you normally can't would require them to recode it for every single area that they chose to change. It's a pointless endeavor that adds little to the game for the amount of effort it would require. It's even more pointless if all you want is a handful of locations to be fixed just for your amusement. Those "very small and limited in number" changes are weeks-worth of coding that are better spent on more important issues.

I did: "That's a major change".

See? That's why will never happen. There are more than 300 areas in the game. They have no time to change any of them unless if a big bug is found in any of them.

Even the map glitches that let players wet to 'weird' map areas are still there.

There's just no way Eragon. You think that you'll be able to take better pictures from vantage points, but you'd also see stuff that the game designers don't intend on you seeing. You're supposed to play the game feeling that there's a world beyond, or at least something to see. That's not the case though. They had performance and time management for development on their mind.

If all the GW2 talk holds up, they may actually have free movement, which you'd like.
